Lickleyhead Castle is a well-restored turreted 16th-century L-plan castle dating from around 1600, and is full of nooks and crannies. The castle is a little south of Auchleven, by the banks of the Gadie Burn, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and sits on 10 acres of woods. With its amazing fireplaces, circular stairway and fertile land, it’s regarded as one of Scotland’s most beautiful historic homes.

This also the castle where Game Of Thrones’ star Rose Leslie was born and raised. Rose plays red headed Ygritte, an unconventional beauty, skinny but strong. In Downton Abbey, Rose plays Gwen, the ambitious daughter of a farm worker.  She appeared in all seven episodes of the first series – which recently won four Emmys in America. Rose’s father Sebastian is the Aberdeenshire Chieftain of Clan Leslie. The castle has been in the family for more than 500 years.

There is a large great hall for spending time together in front of original medieval open fireplace.
